The Performance tab configures browser caching, content compression, and HTTP-to-HTTPS or www redirect rules in the .htaccess file. These directives improve page load speed and enforce consistent URL canonicalization.
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Optimal Expiration Time | Adds ExpiresActive On directives that set long browser cache lifetimes for static assets (images, CSS, JavaScript, fonts). Reduces bandwidth and improves load times for returning visitors. |
| Compress Content | Adds mod_deflate or mod_gzip directives to enable server-side GZIP compression for text-based responses (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML). |
| Redirect to www | Adds a rewrite rule that redirects all non-www requests to the www version of the domain (e.g. example.com to www.example.com). |
| Redirect to non-www | Adds a rewrite rule that redirects all www requests to the non-www version (e.g. www.example.com to example.com). |
Enable either Redirect to www or Redirect to non-www, never both. Enabling both will create an infinite redirect loop.
When a rule has been written to the .htaccess file, a green check-mark icon appears next to the option label.
